01 โ€” Origin story

Where the
spark came from.

Nyla is a cheerleader who noticed something most people overlook: the traditional pom-pom handle is a design problem. It's a rigid stick that makes poms hard to grip during fast routines, tiring to hold through a full performance, and awkward to control when you need precision.

She didn't just want better-looking poms โ€” she wanted a better-designed one. Her solution: a circular grip that fits naturally in your hand, distributes force evenly, and lets cheerleaders focus on the performance instead of fighting their equipment.

I started Perfect Pompoms to make it easier for cheerleaders to hold pompoms. A real problem, a real product, a real solution.

03 โ€” The journey

How Nyla
built her dream.

Nyla's concept starts with a single design insight: the handle is the problem. Traditional pom-poms use a rigid stick that cheerleaders grip from the side โ€” it's tiring, imprecise, and limits what you can do with your hands during a routine.

Her circular grip wraps around the hand naturally, distributes the force of each shake, and gives performers more control with less effort. Through the Dream Chaser program, she built the full concept around that core innovation โ€” what it looks like, who it's for, and how to bring it to market.

What Nyla learned.

About building a custom product business

I learned that the best products solve a specific, real problem โ€” not just a vague one. The handle isn't uncomfortable for everyone. But for cheerleaders who perform for two hours straight, it matters. Designing for that specific person is what makes a product real.

About myself

I perform best when I'm making something for someone specific. Generic products don't excite me. Knowing that a squad is going to compete in the poms I designed for them โ€” that's what drives me.

About my calling

I want to bring out the best in performers. Whether that's through gear, design, or something I haven't thought of yet โ€” I want people to look the part so they can be the part.
